Rock Road Animal Hospital is one of a handful of veterinary hospitals in our area certified to offer PennHIP radiographic evaluations. This is a novel method of assessing and diagnosing injuries and degenerative in the hip that is based on views gained from three distinct radiographic images of your dog’s hip. In particular, PennHIP is exceptionally good at diagnosing osteoarthritis, evaluating joint laxity, and gaining a better understanding of how the condition is affecting this critical joint.

Given the rate of osteoarthritis in dogs, especially older dogs, PennHIP evaluations are an important tool for the early diagnosis and treatment of your beloved pet.

OFA Certification
We are also able to submit radiographs of hips and elbows for rating by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals.

An OFA rating certifies that the hips and elbows of dogs meet certain specifications. Once rated and certified, the dog is therefore safe for breeding because any progeny will have a reduced chance of developing orthopedic issues in these areas of the body.

This is a very important test for certain purebred breeds of dogs as they tend to have higher incidence of moderate to severe orthopedic health issues.

Please call us to schedule a consultation if you would like to discuss further these diagnostic options for your pets.
